
September State Legislative Forum
On September 25th, BAYLI will be hosting a forum open for high
school students across the Bay Area to engage directly in the political conversation. Participants will learn about the policies dealt with by our state legislators and will get to partake in the Q&A session.
Details
The forum will be centered around General Climate
and Urban Policy with Deep-Diving Questions

Assemblymember Ash Kalra
Senator Ash Kalra is a Democrat representing District 27, which includes east and downtown San Jose. He was elected in 2016, and was the first Indian American legislator in California. Prior to serving as a Senator, Kalra worked in San Jose’s public defender office for 11 years and was a San Jose City Council member representing District 7 for 8 years. In 2020, the California League of Conservation Voters named him a Nature Defender and gave him a 99% on their scorecard. He received 89% on Sierra Club’s scorecard from the same year. Senator Josh Becker
Assemblymember Evan Low
Assemblymember Evan Low is a Democrat who has represented District 28, which includes parts of Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, San Jose since 2014. He was formerly the youngest Asian American mayor in the country in Campbell, and was the youngest Asian American legislator in California’s history. In 2015, Low launched the California Legislative Technology & Innovation Caucus, which ensures that California is able to maintain its status of being a global leader in innovation and technology. He has experience working with nonprofit organizations, as well as engaging in grassroots organizing and urban planning.

Senator Josh Becker is a Democrat from Menlo Park representing Senate District 13, comprising much of the Peninsula from South San Francisco to Sunnyvale. He is currently serving his first term in the State Senate, which is his first elected office. Before being elected to the State Senate, Becker had a career in venture capital and nonprofit philanthropy. He also served appointed positions on two public commissions: the California State Workforce Development Board and the San Mateo County Child Care Partnership Council. In the Senate, Becker’s priorities include housing policies for sustainable communities, reducing traffic, climate action, and healthcare for all. Senator Becker is currently a member of the following Senate committees:
